Mona Reichard is 16 years old and currently in Grade 11 at Maris Stella Girls' High School. Mona arrived in Durban on Wednesday 26 July 2006 for her exchange year in South AFrica. She is being hosted by Wally and Tammy Pelser for the first three months of her stay. Mona is a very sporty young lady and her passion lies in tennis. She is currently the club champion in her club in Germany. She is now playing for the U16 team at school here in South Africa. Other interests include windsurfing, cycling, reading and learning new things. Mona has a twin sister (Jenny) who is currently also an exchange student for 1 year in Australia. She also has an older brother (Nick) who is 17 yrs old and he has just returned from a exchange year in Brazil. Mona's family has hosted a few exchange students in the past 2 yrs. Mona's father is a Pharmacist and runs his own Pharmacy in the Town they live in and her mom used to be a nurse but now helps with her father. |

The Rotary Club of Durban Umhlatuzana have sponsored another Long Term Exchange student for the period 2005. The Rombs run a travel agency and Sayuri's host dad, Rudi, is a Rotarian. While in Germany, she is hosted by the Rotary Club of WeiBenburg (Weissenburg) D1950. This club consists of approximately 45 Rotarians, all males (no females allowed!). The president of the club for the year running 2004/2005 is Mr H Lechner.(He is a history teacher and teaches at her school, Von Siemens Gymnasium). The club meets every Tuesday evening. Sayuri lives in the city of WeiBenburg in the province of Bayern. It has a population of 19000 people. |

In 2004 our inbound Youth Exchange Student was from Argentina. Manuel Puente participated in this year's District Conference which took place at the ICC, Durban on Friday 30 April and Saturday 1 May 2004. Manuel took part in the Flag Ceremony by carrying his country's flag into the Conference. Our Rotary Club held a wine-tasting event to raise funds for Manuel to attend the Youth Exchange tour of Mpumalanga and the Kruger National Park. In 2003 our Club played host to Birte Paulsen who was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Koln am Rhein, in Germany, District 1810. Birte paid our club a visit in July 2004 and we were delighted to see her again. Past President Deon Delport held a braai at his home in honour of Birte. In 2002 our club played host to Kaj Heikkila from the town of Eurajoki in Finland, District 1410. President of the Rotary Club of Eurajoki at the time was Hannu Kivikkola. |
